Unveiling the Writing Process: Join my Journey with Tarnished Heroes

I have come to believe that writers are a bit too secretive, at times. Don’t get me wrong—there’s a time and a place for protecting your work. Intentional promotion schedules exist for a reason and if that’s your style, I’m not going to yuck your yum, so to speak. For most of us, though, this secrecy is born out of fear. Fear that someone will steal our idea, fear that the idea is actually lame and revealing it will prove it, fear that we just aren’t good enough to show off until it is done and perfect.

I have a lot of ideas. To quote almost every professional writer: ideas are cheap and plentiful. It’s the time and care you put into them that make them great—why not, then, show off your process a bit? I see art progress videos on Youtube all the time and I watch them, well, all the time. They are the background noise of my most boring tasks and they are quite inspirational. I don’t even draw, really, just little doodles, but seeing how these artists go about their craft is really wonderful.

Writing is far more private. It’s a largely internal practice, after all. Yes there are notebooks and outlines and the ultimate finished work—but the true art is happening inside of someone’s head. It is a simply thing to glance at a sketch or a half-finished canvas; reading half of a 200,000 word novel to “get a sense” of it just isn’t feasible.

Still, I would argue that we need to bring this style of discussion into the writing sphere. Especially with the dawn of AI-generated writing, I think there’s a real interest in the process and craft of it all. I have been searching for videos that bring people in for a while now, and haven’t found anything that exactly fits. So—this is my solution!

I’ll be taking one of my current works in progress—Tarnished Heroes—and breaking it down. Together we’ll explore the plot ideas, find all the current holes (there are many) and build it from the ground up. We’ll world-build, brainstorm character details, and generally have a good time. At the end you’ll have a series to follow along, and a book to (hopefully) purchase to see how it all truly came together in the end.

I hope you’ll follow along!

If you want to read my currently available work, The Spiraling is available on Kindle Unlimited and for paperback purchase through Amazon and wherever you buy books online. The second book is coming out later this year—catch up before my promotional materials spoil it!
