The Inside Scoop

I didn’t write last Friday—with the busy holiday weekend, things just got away from me. This week I thought I’d round up a few of my favorites from the past few months and try something a little different!

My husband and I started planning our meals for the month and we made pork tenderloin with plum sauce, and it was delicious! We used Chinese five-spice instead of the spice blend listed in this recipe and I thought it was a great dinner—and good cold too! I’m going to be making these chinese meat pies tomorrow, so I’ll let you know how that goes.

I recently watched The Beekeeper (it has a truly phenomenal cover, I love the dissolving effect) and it was really great—exactly what I want from an action movie, honestly. I’m easily pleased—revenge story with an overpowered main character who has morally gray motivations and a sordid history that we get tiny glimpses of throughout? Sign me up. I also love Jason Statham movies, they are a guilty pleasure (I’d also highly recommend Wrath of Man, The Meg, and War—each for very different reasons.) These action movies hit the same spot as monster movies for me, which is another of my favorite genres. I’m really excited to get Netflix next month so that I can watch Godzilla Minus One! I’ve been waiting a long time for it!

For my birthday last month my husband gifted me with a fantastic Royal Kludge S108 keyboard—the keys light up beautifully when I type and it makes the most satisfying clicking sounds. Honestly, I think my writing productivity has gone up 150% simply because of the satisfaction I get from the noise.

For my husband’s birthday last month I made a pistachio baklava cheesecake, which was as good as it sounds. I make a cheesecake every year and try out new flavors all the time, and this one just might take the cake (pun very much intended). For my own birthday I made a Boston Cream Pie, which is in fact a cake! I love a confusingly named dessert.

Outside of writing my life is pretty food- and movie-oriented, so I hope you enjoyed a little snapshot! If you want more recommendations I’m happy to make this a more recurring post.

The Spiraling, my debut book, is out now! Check it out on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or wherever you buy books online. I’m so excited for this book to be out in the world, and I can’t wait for you to read it.
