Tunsealiorian Saga: The Wela

This is a continuation of my series of behind the scenes world-building that, while not required to enjoy The Spiraling and future books of the Tunsealiorian Saga, will add more depth to the world of Tunsealior.

The Wela are deities, the creators of the universe and gods who play an intricate role in the everyday lives and faith of the people of Tunsealior.

The eldest of the Wela are:

  • Makmo, King of the Wela and God of Warriors
  • Ioka, Queen of the Wela and Goddess of the Elements
  • Paroi, God of Wind
  • Dalka, Goddess of the Dead
  • Hepas, God of the Hunt and the Unnamed
The Shimmering Plane is, according to religious texts, a beautiful and peaceful realm

These five Wela are children of the Imdite, the primordial gods who were overthrown by the Wela. Many of the Imdite were cast into the Black Plane after their defeat, where they live in eternal shadow.

Ruling beside the five original Wela are their children and grandchildren, who are as follows:

  • Afina, Goddess of Beauty
  • Itrodo, God of Truth
  • Bensa, Goddess of Life
  • Elethea, Goddess of Childbirth
  • Jaecar, God of Veneance
  • Tisma, Goddess of Chaos
  • Madoc, God of Luck
  • Aria, Goddess of Music and Poetry
  • Nen, God of the Sea
  • Zelmela, Goddess of Caverns and Mountains
  • Idola, Goddess of Premonition and Knowledge

The Coalition acknowledges only Eight of the Wela—Makmo, Ioka, Paroi, Dalka, Hepas, Afina, Itrodo, and Bensa. This stems from the Eilvyn’s origins; they were created by Afina thousands of years ago and their records indicate that this was before the births of the younger Wela. The Eilvyn thus believe themselves to be higher beings than the Wela born after their creation, and do not acknowledge them as deities. Before the Eilvyn settled in Tunsealior, and before the creation of the Coalition, all sixteen Wela were worshipped freely across Tunsealior. There are still pockets that choose to honor the “Lower Eight”, but it must be done in secrecy.

I hope you enjoyed this snapshot in the world of Tunsealior. I highly recommend reading more in The Spiraling, the first book in the Tunsealiorian Saga.
